This year we’re going local. Introducing the first ever Stumptown Improv Festival Local Ensemble!
So what is it?
The Local Ensemble will be a group of local performers who will rehearse and workshop together for four days under the guidance of two amazing, high-caliber directors.
So what are the details?
The ensemble will be a curated group composed of 8-12 improvisers. Participants will partake in four evening rehearsals from Monday, July 31st through Thursday, August 3rd (exact times TBD), and perform Tuesday night at Kickstand Comedy Space and a Thursday Night slot at the Stumptown Improv Festival!
Oooh! Who are the instructors?
Check it out…
Amy is always excited to work with improv groups, and help them play to their strengths. She is most excited to experiment with pulse edits, mirroring, choral speech, attack, as well as addressing fears and true stories on stage. She has conceived of many formats in her time with Rapid Fire Theatre, as well as a director abroad.
In 2012, Amy created Rapid Fire Theatre’s BONFIRE Festival; A Celebration of Longform Improv. The focus of BONFIRE is to give ensemble members an opportunity to devise and experiment with new long-form formats. Through this process, Amy had the opportunity to vet and nurture numerous new improv projects annually. From genre-focused epic quests, to wrestling-inspired Theatresports matches, to a show where performers each speak a different language, BONFIRE is about encouraging risk taking. Amy takes this spirit with her when directing any improv ensemble.
Laura is an Amsterdam-based teacher and performer in the fields of improvisation, theatre, dance and communication skills. Laura has been teaching for 14 years, including 9 years in her own own theatre school. Her background is in theatre, dance and Business Administration. At the moment, Laura is working as a trainer and actress in The Netherlands, Europe, and North America.
Laura loves cycling, traveling, cats, pancakes, making lists, taking leaps, staying up late, and sleeping in. Also, her last name is a castle. True story.
